Vegan Breakfast Ideas

Breakfast is one of those staple meals you don’t need to compromise on when making the switch to a vegan. It is nutritious, delicious while quick and easy to prepare. There are so many tasty options that you can choose from. Below are some healthy and easy recipe and food ideas that you can make for your vegan breakfasts in the mornings.

Breakfast Juices

For beginners, you can start by hand squeezing lemons or oranges into a glass to make fresh juice. Alternatively, if you have a juicer you can whip up a healthy concoction to get you feeling energized for the day. Having a juicer allows you to incorporate more vegetables. Just be mindful that juicing you’re extracting the pulp and fibre from the produce. Try the following juice recipe:

  • 4 celery stalks
  • 3 apples
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 beetroot
  • a knob of ginger

Add more ginger for a zestier juice or more apple for a sweeter juice. Other great additions include citrus fruit such as orange or grape fruit, papaya, berries and pineapple. Adding fresh herbs transform a typical juice, try adding some mint or thyme in the mix.

Cereal

Most health food stores and supermarkets and offer a wide range of cereals nowadays, but I recommend trying to make your own. It becomes easier on the budget and you can cater to your own preferences. Personally I opt for a lazy option of rolled oats, nuts and some chopped fruit. Enjoy your cereal with rice or soy milk and a dollop of yogurt. To make your bowl of cereal healthier, more sustaining and more delicious, add your choice of linseeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, nuts, raisins, goji berries, chopped dates or sultanas. This will turn an ordinary bowl of cereal into a healthy, sustaining vegan breakfast.

Tea/Coffee

A lot of people all over the world enjoy a cup of tea or coffee to take with their breakfast. Vegans too have its tea and coffee. Have your tea or black coffee with some rice milk or soy milk. If you like it a little sweet, brown sugar, molasses, use stevia, agave nectar or maple syrup. Be wary though of normally refined sugars, as these can be filtered with bone char, a non-vegan substance.

Non-Cooked Breakfasts.

When you are not in the mood for cooking breakfast, there are many other simple, easy vegan breakfast options that you can have. You can take your tea and coffee with some toast; vegan chocolate spread with jam, or simply vegan “butter” (soy spread). You can easily have a bowl of vegan cereal with soy milk, rice milk or coconut milk. Or you just have some freshly chopped in-season fruit, perhaps topped with some soy or coconut milk yogurt and a handful of walnuts or almonds.

As you can see, if you let your imagination go wild there are an infinite variety of healthy, easy and delicious vegan breakfast ideas and recipes.
